Elke Thoms’ writing career began early–as a child she kept a list of restaurants with her opinions on their macaroni and cheese. Now a writer based in Los Angeles, she is an award-winning poet, playwright, and stand-up comedian.
Elke currently performs stand-up comedy in the Los Angeles area. She is the winner of Northeastern University’s 2016 Last Husky Standing.
Elke’s poem, “Bedroom View,” is featured in City of Notions: An Anthology of Contemporary Boston Poems. “Bedroom View” was displayed in Boston City Hall for one year as part of the Mayor’s Poetry Program. Elke’s poetry can be found on Instagram (@elkepoems).
Her one-act plays, EVERY SYNONYM OF BEAUTIFUL and SHUTTER SPEED, are winners of The School of Performing Arts in the Richmond Community’s statewide playwriting competition, New Voices for the Theater. Elke’s plays were performed as staged readings at the Firehouse Theatre Project and Virginia Commonwealth University’s Shafer Street Playhouse. SHUTTER SPEED, as well as her ten-minute plays BUYING THE COW and SHORT DISTANCE, received productions by Northeastern University’s Theatre Group, Silver Masque.
Elke graduated cum laude from Northeastern University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in psychology. At Northeastern, she was the host, producer, and DJ of her own radio show, Save the Country, on WRBB 104.9 FM. She was Editor-in-Chief of the Literary Arts Magazine, Spectrum. She is a member of the 2018 Huntington 100.
